Artist's Description
A dead bird hovers, cradling a giant ladle pouring molten steel, above a landscape of remnants of a steel industrial landscape in the Mahoning Valley, in the Youngstown-Warren area of northeast Ohio. On the bottom is the coke plant of Warren. The bird's eyes are dried, sunken, dead hollow. Along the top are a sort of stations-of the-cross of a depiction of a pilot's plane -- they are a memorial to this pilot friend who passed away a few months ago and whose aerial photos the landscape drawings are based on.
About Diana Ludwig
Diana is an artist who is happiest outdoors & a lazy bibliophiliac, who spelunks, rollerbades, picks up red efts, wintergreen berries, ox-eye daisies. Likes watching birds, foxes, antelopes, talks to barn owls, hikes, x-c skiis, watches butterflies, toads, praying mantises...snowdrops along the Clarion and bald eagles over, foxgloves down the Belltown way scrumbles around, planting, drawing, bogging, botanizing, stargazing, snowshoing, herbing, looking for bats & salamanders, backpacking, camping. When that's done, she reads, writes, paints & does other mixed media art, takes hours-long cyanotype photos, & plays with cats. Great composition and very moving to the sad side. It's a wonderful memorial of a great frienship.
